How to Install Magento on Windows with XAMPP

1) Download and InstallXAMPP

2) Setup Database using phpmyadmin
3) Edit apache/conf/httpd.conf change line:

  1. #LoadModule rewrite_module modules/


  1. LoadModule rewrite_module modules/

(just remove the # )

4) Edit apache/bin/php.ini and php/php.ini (same changes on both files – note, as of XAMPP 1.7.1, you will only have to change php/php.ini) change lines (the first change is not necessary on xampp):

  1. ;extension=php_mcrypt.dll


  1. extension=php_mcrypt.dll

and changes lines:

  1. ;extension=php_curl.dll


  1. extension=php_curl.dll

(just remove the ; )

4a) On WAMP you must also change the following line in apache2/bin/php.ini and php/php.ini changes lines:

  1. ;extension=php_pdo_mysql.dll


  1. extension=php_pdo_mysql.dll

(just remove the ; )

In addition to php_pdo_mysql.dll, you may also need to make sure you are loading:

  1. extension=php_pdo.dll

Now download Magento and sample data from magento site

  • Uncompress or Unarchive the file on the server.(xampp/htdoc/yoursitename)
  • Rename the folder from its current name: “magento” to the name you want to use to refer to your site, such as “yoursitename”

Create the Magento Database

    • You must create a new, empty database for Magento to use.
    • One of the most popular tools used to administer databases is “phpMyAdmin”.
    • create the new database and import the database from sample data using import button and click Go Button

Run the installtion script

Just clicking agree and enable the continue button and click continue then you will get a next page

here you have to localalize your location.. and click continue button

Next Step enter Host Name(localhost) and database name(xxxx) and username(root),password is optional and click continue button see below image

and next step enter the Personal information and login information see below image

now successfully install magento see below image

Click on Go to Frontend Button to get the magento home page

Click on GO To Backend Button enter the magento backend login page.see below image

Enter the login information username and get the backend structure of magento see below image
